I met my younger self for coffee

I met my younger self for coffee,
he was oblivious, wide-eyed and free.

“You’re doing great”, I murmured.
He nodded, half-believed.

He saw the world a different way,
there were no words that could persuade

In time he’ll learn what I already knew,
we all need time to follow through

He left me there, with time to ponder,
my thoughts drifting into quiet wonder

He shaped the soil from which i grew,
richer than he ever knew.

And here I am, with my old coffee,
a man oblivious, wide-eyed and free.
